Like many youngsters living along the coastal towns in the South of England, Andrew Gardner was introduced to sailing along the choppy waters of the Solent. In 1990, while embarking on the start of an around the world trip with his long term friend; Julian Boulton, he decided to gain more hands-on experience by crewing on a 35ft sailing vessel navigating from Gibraltor to Gran Canaria. The vessel was planning to join up with the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) - an annual transatlantic sailing event for cruiser and later racing yachts.

The ARC starts at the end of November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and generally ends before Christmas at Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean. It is the largest trans-ocean sailing event in the world and regularly attracts over 200 boats of many different shapes and sizes. The route takes between 8 and 31 days aided by trade winds, and covers over 2,700 nautical miles.

Upon arrival in St. Lucia, Andrew meet up with some English deckhands working on a 200ft+ Fedship, who boasted how they got paid to work and travel - Andrew was hooked on the idea! So, after several crew positions on sailboats traveling North through the Caribbean & The Virgin Islands, Andrew finally arrived in St. Thomas and jumped aboard a plane destined for Ft. Lauderdale, the epicenter of yachting.

After several days walking the docks looking for day work, he finally secured a position as a deck hand /steward on a 125ft Christensen motor yacht called "Fifty-One". He spent the next several years cruising miscellaneous ports of call from the Bahamas to as far South as Venezuela and the ABC Islands.
With hard work, dedication and a sharpening of his boat detailing and seamanship skills, Andrew was promoted to First Mate. After the vessel was eventually sold, Andrew continued his career picking up several positions that took him up and down the U.S. Eastern Sea Board multiple times.
Later, Andrew returned to the UK to continue his education and in 1997 graduated with a (Hons) Business Studies Degree. At the same time he continued his interest in sailing and took part in the 608-mile Fastnet Race. The race starts off Cowes on the Isle of Wight, along the south coast of England, at the Royal Yacht Squadron. Leaving The Solent through The Needles Channel, the race follows the southern coastline of England westward down the English Channel, before rounding Land's End. After crossing the Celtic Sea, the race rounds the Fastnet Rock off the southwest coast of Ireland. Returning on a largely reciprocal course, the race rounds the Isles of Sicily before finishing at Plymouth.

In 2005, Andrew decided to leave the UK again for the warmer climate of Fort Lauderdale. Now married, he searched for a land based business that would allow him to keep involved in yachting in some capacity. After several months, he purchased a local Fort Lauderdale yacht & boat detailing and maintenance company called TEN-TEX Boating. The name was a combination of the husband and wife owners' home states of Tennessee & Texas.

The rest is history as TEN-TEX Boating built a reputation recognized for the timely, delivery of high quality, expert yacht & boat detailing services throughout Fort Lauderdale and the SE coast of Florida.

Experience - detailing a boat for sale

TEN-TEX Boating
Andrew would be pleased to visit your yacht and assess the condition of your paint or gel coat. Taking into account the age of your yacht and your annual maintenance budget, recommendations will be made on how best to restore the surface and a program to maintain & protect the boats new finish.

Product offerings include the latest "Ceramic coatings", "Nano" waxes and "Polymer" sealers to the more traditional compound, polish and waxing products. All marine detailing products are sourced from U.S.A. premier, marine manufacturers such as Presta Marine and purchased from local marine supply stores such as Lewis Marine.

How best to introduce you to Andrew Gardner and

TEN-TEX Boating, than through a familiar conversation he has with both Yacht Owners, Captains and Brokers.

….Jordan P., a Palm Beach yacht broker….
He called me recently all in a panic, stressing out over the state of his new potential listing – a 2012 32 FT Sea Ray – docked behind his client’s home in Delray Beach, Florida. The client was going out of state for the summer and wanted the paperwork all in order within a matter of days.

What can I say, for a 4-year old boat, it looked a real disaster, with his investment going right down the tubes. In this condition, the client would be lucky to muster a deposit for the 47FT Sea Ray he had his eyes set on, while Jordan could definitely say goodbye to double commission!

Of course, the client’s regular “weekend” detailer had assured him he took just great care of it. In reality all he had done was pocket the change from the purchase of dish wash soap designed to remove the grease & dirt from pots and pans. So any resemblance of a deep shine on the waxed gel coat, which arrived direct from the factory, had long gone. Now as you wiped your hand over the gel coat, instead a white powder lifted off caused by the breakdown of the UV inhibitor’s from that nasty waxing striping boat soap and the effects of the acid rain.

So Jordan called Andrew and within 3 days the boat detailing specialists of
TEN-TEX Boating had the interior emptied of personal items, thoroughly cleaned & vacuumed, the exterior compound and waxed, oil stains removed from the engine room and the generator cover re-painted. A day later photographs were taken, launched to the web and Jordan had the 1st viewing within days of his initial phone call to TEN-TEX Boating.
